Hyderabad: Women’s empowerment comes with many challenges, but Parameshwari Chadurupally has been determined to break these barriers. Through her NGO, the Society for Helping Integrity Network for Empowerment (SHINE), she has trained nearly 10,000 women in different skills, helping them earn a living and become independent.
Parameshwari started her journey with just two sewing machines, setting up a women’s skill development center. Today, SHINE runs three training centers in Hyderabad, located in Towlichoki, Borampet, and Turkayamjal. These centers operate under Project Hope, offering training in tailoring, beautician courses, and computer operations. This helps women gain the skills they need to become financially self-sufficient.
Apart from skill training, SHINE also provides financial assistance to women who want to start small businesses. The NGO helps them access various state and Central government schemes and supplies the necessary resources to support their entrepreneurial dreams.
To create more job opportunities, SHINE set up a Garment Unit in Turkayamjal two years ago. This unit employs marginalized women, where some work on stitching while others handle marketing. The income earned is shared equally among the workers, benefiting around 10 women through this cooperative model.
Parameshwari’s inspiration comes from her own struggles. She recalls, “I saw my mother struggle after my father passed away. I faced many hardships myself and realized that many women go through the same. I wanted to help them become independent.” In 2014, she founded SHINE in LB Nagar with the goal of empowering women through skill development. Her dedication was recognized nationally, and in 2018, she received the Swabhiman Excellence Award from the Central government.
Many women have benefited from SHINE’s programs. G. Latha, one of the trainees, took a beautician course and started her own home-based beauty business. This gave her financial independence and boosted her confidence.
Similarly, M. Swetha transformed her life after completing a tailoring course. She says, “This training gave me recognition. I once struggled to earn a living, but today, I own my own tailoring shop in LB Nagar.”
Through SHINE, Parameshwari continues to help women overcome challenges and build a better future for themselves.
