A statewide student bandh has been called for July 23, 2025, by various left-wing student unions across Telangana. The protest is aimed at drawing the government’s attention to long-pending issues affecting lakhs of students in the state. With the bandh just a day away, many students and parents are left wondering whether educational institutions will remain closed.
The bandh is expected to see participation from major universities, colleges, and student organizations. While no official closure has been announced yet, there is a growing buzz that several schools and colleges might remain shut either as a precaution or in support of the cause.
Key Demands of the Protesters:
Immediate release of pending scholarships and fee reimbursements that many students, especially from economically weaker sections, have been waiting for.
Upgradation of infrastructure in government and aided colleges, which often lack basic facilities like clean drinking water, functioning toilets, and classrooms.
Recruitment of faculty and staff in various institutions where numerous posts have remained vacant for years, leading to a decline in the quality of education.
Revival of TSRTC student bus pass subsidies and expansion of public transport services to rural and suburban colleges.
Timely academic planning, including prompt release of academic calendars and ensuring that exams are held without unnecessary delays.
Student leaders have criticized the government for neglecting the education sector and failing to keep promises made in previous legislative sessions. “Education is not a privilege, it’s a right. We are not asking for favors but demanding what is rightfully ours,” said a representative from one of the unions.
Traffic disruptions and public transport slowdowns are expected in several areas, especially in university zones like Osmania, Kakatiya, and Palamuru. The police have been put on alert to maintain law and order.
As the call for bandh gains momentum, the government is yet to release an official statement. Parents are advised to stay updated through school or college communication channels regarding any closures or schedule changes.
