Attapur police in Hyderabad have arrested a 20-year-old student for allegedly driving a car towards on-duty police personnel during a vehicle inspection drive under Operation Kavach. The accused, Mohammed Fahad Uddin, was arrested on October 16 and remanded to judicial custody, according to a police press release issued on October 17.

Police said Fahad Uddin was driving a Suzuki Fronx bearing registration number TG 13 E 2212 from Mehdipatnam towards Attapur. The car had the word “GHOST” written on it.

According to the release, the driver noticed police personnel checking vehicles on the road. He then reversed the car and drove at high speed in the wrong direction, against oncoming traffic. Police said this caused panic among commuters and police personnel.

The driver then allegedly drove the vehicle towards the police officers, attempting to hit them and endangering public safety. Attapur Sub-Inspector Srinivas Reddy and his team intervened, apprehended the accused and seized the vehicle, police said.

A case was registered at Attapur police station under Sections 109(1), 281, 125 and 221 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 184 and 119 read with Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Fahad Uddin, son of Mohammed Nizam Uddin, is a student and a resident of Salar Jung Colony in Tolichowki, Hyderabad. Police said he was produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.

In its advisory, Attapur police urged parents to exercise caution before handing over vehicles to their children and to prevent them from speeding, dangerous driving or stunts. Police also warned against displaying unauthorised words or decorative lettering on number plates, or failing to display proper registration plates, saying violations could invite legal action. The police stated that driving on the wrong side to evade checks and attempting to drive at on-duty police personnel would invite strict legal action, including imprisonment.
