Supreme Court team examines Chevella accident

Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre, the Chairman of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, along with member Sanjay Bandopadhyay, visited Hyderabad on Thursday. They held a meeting to discuss the Chevella road accident with officials from various departments.

During the meeting, they examined the accident’s causes in detail. Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty provided a comprehensive explanation to the Committee about the incident.

The Committee instructed the officials to re-check the fitness of RTC buses and other commercial vehicles. They were told to seize any vehicles lacking valid fitness certificates. The Transport Department was also urged to ensure all vehicles have proper insurance, permits, and fitness certificates.

Officials from the NHAI were asked to speed up the national highway widening projects and complete them quickly. The Mining and Transport Department was advised to ensure vehicles do not exceed load limits from mining sites.

Furthermore, the Committee recommended the State Government to establish a Road Safety Fund.

Present at the meeting were Additional DGP Mahesh Bhagwat, Transport Commissioner Ilambarithi, Mining Director Bhavesh Mishra, and other senior officials like Joint Transport Commissioners Chandra Shekhar Goud and Shiva Lingayya.
