Thief attacks police officer in Hyderabad, police shoot back

Hyderabad witnessed a dramatic event on Saturday, October 25, when DCP S Chaitanya Kumar of the South East Zone faced an unexpected attack. This happened as Kumar and his team tried to catch a mobile phone thief near Victory Playground in Chaderghat.

Kumar, returning from a meeting with the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, VC Sajjanar, in Banjara Hills, noticed the thief escaping with a stolen phone. The officer and his team quickly moved to apprehend the suspect.

In a surprising turn, the thief brandished a knife and attacked Kumar, stunning his team. In response, the police opened fire, injuring the suspect.

The thief attempted to hide in a residential area and later jumped into the playground, where locals spotted him. Witnesses reported hearing two gunshots and seeing the injured suspect on the ground.

One witness stated, “We heard gunfire and saw a man injured,” while another added that despite being shot in the hand and waist, the suspect tried to flee.

With local assistance, the police captured the thief and took him to a hospital in Nampally. The area is now sealed off for investigation. Fortunately, DCP Kumar is safe and recovering.
