Telangana Budget Session Begins with Heated Debates

The Telangana budget session started with intense discussions as Governor Jishnu Dev Varma addressed both Houses of the Legislature. He spoke about the government’s welfare and development plans, but his speech was met with protests from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs, who strongly opposed the government’s policies.

During his address, the Governor assured the public that the government is committed to inclusive governance. He stated that Telangana is not just progressing but transforming through bold reforms, people-focused policies, and strong leadership.

One of the key highlights of his speech was the focus on farmer welfare. He announced an enhanced Rythu Bharosa scheme, providing ₹12,000 per acre annually to farmers, along with a ₹500 per quintal bonus for paddy farmers. He also mentioned the creation of the Telangana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Commission to safeguard the future of agriculture in the state.

For women’s empowerment, the Governor praised the Mahalakshmi Scheme, which has allowed women to take 149.63 crore free bus trips, saving them ₹5,005.95 crore in travel expenses. He also highlighted the Indira Mahila Shakti Mission, which aims to support one crore women entrepreneurs with a financial assistance target of ₹1 lakh crore.

Youth development was another key focus. The Governor spoke about the establishment of Young India Skill University and the Rajiv Gandhi Civils Abhaya Hastham Scheme, which provides financial support to civil service aspirants.

However, as the Governor continued his speech, BRS MLAs staged a protest inside the Assembly, criticizing the government’s policies. The presence of former Chief Minister and BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) further energized the party’s members, leading to disruptions as they attempted to interrupt the speech.

Despite the strong opposition, the budget session will continue, with discussions on key policies and financial plans expected to spark further debates in the coming days.
