The Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana has announced a comprehensive review of police welfare initiatives, emphasizing increased support for officers and their families. In a detailed statement, the DGP outlined plans to strengthen financial assistance, healthcare benefits, and educational support for police personnel across the state. The announcement comes as part of ongoing efforts to address the stress and challenges faced by officers in their line of duty.
Under the new welfare framework, the DGP has directed significant enhancements to scholarship programs for meritorious children of police personnel. The initiative includes specialized assistance for competitive examinations like JEE and NEET, along with expanded provisions for marriage, medical, and education loans. The welfare society will also provide corpus insurance and grant-based assistance to eligible families, ensuring comprehensive financial security for those serving in the police force.
The Employee Health Scheme (EHS) has now replaced the earlier Arogya Bhadratha health protection program. According to official data, 33,126 beneficiaries availed treatment in 2025, with expenditure amounting to Rs 181.74 crore. In the period up to June 2026, 12,392 personnel have already received medical treatment, with Rs 73.61 crore spent on their healthcare. The comprehensive health coverage demonstrates the state’s commitment to ensuring medical security for police families.
The Group Personal Accidental Insurance scheme provides financial protection to families of personnel who die in service, with coverage ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh for IPS officers. Revenue generated from canteen and commercial complex operations will be channeled to strengthen the Young IPS (YIPS) program, children’s education initiatives, examination coaching facilities, and marriage assistance schemes. The DGP has also mandated the implementation of a digital welfare management system to ensure real-time, transparent tracking of all benefits through computerization of records from the DGP office down to district levels.
In a significant move to improve financial accessibility, the welfare society has been directed to increase low-interest loans for all eligible personnel. These loans, which can extend up to Rs 30 lakh, will cover housing, personal needs, marriages, and education expenses. The DGP emphasized that every rupee allocated must reach eligible employees fairly and transparently. Additionally, Association Elections have been ordered after a gap of 14 years, with expectations of democratic functioning within the police welfare structures.
During recent district visits, the DGP identified delays in sanctioning station maintenance bills and regular expenditure from the previous year. These pending bills have now been cleared through the Finance department to provide immediate relief to field officers. The DGP reiterated that the welfare of the entire police staff remains the top priority, with all measures aimed at creating a supportive environment for personnel who work under challenging conditions to maintain law and order in the state.
