Hyderabad: As the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise continues across Telangana, many voters are expressing concern over the delay in the approval and rejection of Form 6 and Form 8 applications. Citizens who applied for new voter registrations or corrections in their voter details say their applications have remained pending for nearly two months, making it difficult for them to complete the SIR process online.

According to election officials at the field level, the approval and disposal of these applications are expected to resume only after the current SIR exercise, likely during the month of August. Until then, no changes can be made to voter records through the online system.

Why Are Applications Pending?

Several applicants who recently submitted Form 6 or Form 8 have noticed that their application status has not changed for weeks. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have reportedly informed voters that the voter management portal is currently not processing approvals or rejections because of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision.

As a result, applications for corrections and new voter registrations are temporarily on hold until normal electoral roll operations resume.

Who Is Affected?

The delay is mainly affecting two categories of voters.

The first includes citizens who submitted Form 6 to apply for a new Voter ID because their names were not present in the electoral roll. Since these applications are yet to be approved, many are unable to complete the SIR process online.

The second category includes voters who applied through Form 8 to correct mistakes in their existing voter records. Common corrections include changes to the applicant’s name, father’s name, address, date of birth or other personal details.

Since these corrections are still pending, applicants whose voter records contain errors are finding it difficult to proceed with online verification.

Minor Errors Can Create Problems During SIR

Many voters have reported that even small differences between their Voter ID details and supporting documents require a Form 8 correction. However, because these applications are awaiting approval, the incorrect details continue to appear in the electoral database.

This has become a concern for applicants who wish to complete the SIR process using accurate information but are unable to update their records until the pending Form 8 application is processed.

Mobile Number Updates Are Being Processed Automatically

There is, however, one exception.

If a voter has submitted Form 8 only for linking or updating their mobile number, without requesting any other correction, the application is generally being processed automatically within a short time.

This is particularly useful for voters who have not linked their mobile number with their Voter ID.

Need OTP for Online SIR? Here’s What You Can Do

During online SIR submission, the portal sends a One-Time Password (OTP) to the mobile number linked with the voter’s EPIC record. If no mobile number is linked, the applicant may not be able to complete the online process.

In such cases, voters can submit a Form 8 application exclusively for mobile number updation. Once the number is linked and approved, they can log in again and complete the online SIR application using OTP authentication.

What Should Citizens Do?

Voters whose Form 6 or Form 8 applications involving personal detail corrections are still pending need not panic. Election officials indicate that processing is expected to resume after the SIR exercise concludes.

Meanwhile, if a voter is unable to complete the online SIR process because of pending corrections, they may submit the physical SIR Enumeration Form through their respective Booth Level Officer (BLO). The BLO will verify the documents and process the enumeration manually as per Election Commission guidelines.

Wait Until August for Pending Corrections

With the Special Intensive Revision currently receiving priority, approval and rejection of pending Form 6 and Form 8 applications are expected to resume in August. Until then, applicants are advised to keep track of their application status, stay in touch with their BLO if required, and rely only on official Election Commission updates regarding voter services.

Note: This information is based on field-level guidance being provided by election officials and BLOs during the ongoing SIR exercise. Applicants should continue to monitor the official Election Commission portal for updates regarding the resumption of Form 6 and Form 8 processing.
