Thota Trimurthulu, YSRCP Mandapeta candidate involved in 1996 Dalits tonsure case, granted bail

A court in Vishakhapatnam has made a significant ruling in the Shiromundanam tonsure case from 1996. YSRCP Mandapeta MLA candidate Thota Trimurthulu and six others have been sentenced to 18 months in jail by the court, with Trimurthulu also being fined Rs 2.5 lakh.

The case has been ongoing for 28 years. Back in December 1996, Trimurthulu and his associates allegedly forcibly shaved the heads of five Dalits in Venkatayapalem village, Ramachandrapuram mandal (now in Konaseema district), as an act of insult.

Trimurtulu has stated that he was granted bail in the case and urged his party members not to believe in false rumors being spread by the opposition.
