Hyderabad: The top leaders of the Congress party are unlikely to attend the Telangana Rising Global Summit on December 8 and 9 at Bharat Future City. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and AICC chief Mallikarjuna Kharge probably will not participate as they are busy with the winter session of Parliament.
The Congress leadership also aims to avoid giving the summit a political twist. No confirmations about their attendance have been received yet.
Previously, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka invited these leaders to the summit.
However, Congress leaders are occupied with the active winter session. On December 9, discussions on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls are scheduled in the Lok Sabha. Rahul Gandhi will lead the opposition’s discussion on electoral reforms and SIR, with other Congress members like KC Venugopal, Manish Tewari, and Varsha Gaikwad contributing.
The Telangana government plans to run the summit professionally, without focusing on Congress leaders’ attendance. Governor Jishnu Dev Varma will inaugurate the event on Monday at 1:30 pm, and it will conclude on Tuesday.
The government has not officially disclosed the list of VIP attendees, including the Prime Minister, Union Ministers, or other states’ Chief Ministers, though invitations have been sent by the CM, DCM, and other ministers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is unlikely to attend the summit on December 8 as he is scheduled to start the Vande Mataram debate in the Lok Sabha, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the national song. Congress Deputy Leader Gaurav Gogoi is expected to lead the opposition’s side, with speakers like Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Deepender Hooda.
The Telangana government might announce the VIP attendees on the first day of the summit.
