Tummala Nageswara Rao, the Agriculture Minister, opened a new organic market in the 54th Division VDOs Colony on Friday. This is the first market of its kind in Khammam. It offers food grains, pulses, fruits, and vegetables grown naturally without chemicals or pesticides, all at affordable prices.
Plastic bags are not allowed at this market to help protect the environment. Instead, a stall is available for the Women’s Association to sell jute bags and cloth bags.
Growing food organically reduces costs because no chemicals or pesticides are used. This method also helps protect the environment and groundwater, providing healthy and nutritious food for everyone.
The demand for organic food is rising. Farmers can earn more by selling their chemical-free produce directly to consumers. The minister encouraged this approach and promised government support for organic farmers.
The minister also stated that products made by women’s groups should be sold in the market.
Earlier, Tummala laid the foundation stone for a new CC road and drain project in the area, funded with Rs 39.25 lakhs from municipal general funds. Punukollu Neeraja, the city mayor, along with the additional collector and other officials, participated in the event.
Rayala Nageswara Rao, Chairman of the State Warehousing Corporation, and Hanmantha Rao, Chairman of the Khammam Market Committee, were also present, along with several public representatives and officials.
