Hyderabad: Officials of TG Safe (Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs) seized about 55 tonnes of food products worth an estimated Rs. 33.94 lakh during inspections at five snack manufacturing units run by Sahil Foods in Premavathi Pet, near Katedan.
Officials found multiple food safety violations at the units. They suspended the FSSAI licences and registrations of four units and ordered them to stop business operations.
Inspectors found food products stored without proper labels and suspected quality issues. They collected 11 samples and sent them to a laboratory for testing. Officials also found accumulated food waste inside the units, poorly maintained machinery and inadequate ventilation. Some workers were reportedly chewing gutka and pan masala inside the facilities.
The inspections also revealed unhygienic storage practices. Food products were kept directly on the floor, and synthetic food colours were stored in unclean buckets. The units had not maintained proper records on the manufacture and sale of their products.
Officials noted that the FSSAI licences did not cover the appropriate food categories. Authorities suspended the licences and registrations of the four units for violating the prescribed requirements and directed them to halt operations.
After the inspections, officials advised consumers to check food products carefully before buying them. They asked buyers to verify the FSSAI licence or registration number, product name, manufacturer details, batch information, date markings and storage instructions. They also advised people to avoid damaged or opened packages and products with missing or unclear labels.
