A 17-year-old girl was gang-raped by two groups of 13 people in Visakhapatnam, which is a terrible crime. The girl’s boyfriend and his accomplice sexually assaulted her, and then she was gang-raped by 11 other people, who were photographers at RK Beach. These crimes happened between December 17 and 19, 2023, and came to light when a missing complaint was filed with the police. The girl was found in her hometown in Odisha and brought back to Visakhapatnam. The police have arrested 11 of the accused, but two others are still being searched for in Jharkhand.
The story started when the girl’s father filed a missing case at the Fourth Town police station on December 18. The girl was working as a maid in a Government employee’s house and was alone there while the owners were on vacation. She was taking care of their pet. The police found the girl in her hometown in Odisha and brought her back to Visakhapatnam. It took some time for her to reveal what had happened because she was in shock. Based on her statement, the police registered two cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on December 31 and started the investigation.
According to the girl’s statement, she went to RK Beach with her boyfriend on December 17. Her boyfriend brought a friend along, and they both raped her at a lodge. Shocked by this, the girl went to RK Beach and wanted to end her life. A beach photographer noticed her alone and offered to help. He took her to a lodge where he and his accomplices raped her. This went on for two days. Eventually, the victim managed to escape from the gang and went to her hometown in Kalahandi, Odisha. She had only moved to Visakhapatnam with her family nine months ago.
The incident sparked anger from TDP president Chandrababu Naidu, who criticized the YSRCP Government for failing to provide security to women in Andhra Pradesh. He accused them of empowering criminals who prey on women. In response, the Andhra Pradesh police department stated that the girl was gang-raped by her boyfriend and his friend, and then she was approached by photographers at RK Beach who raped her for several days before leaving her in Odisha. The police have already arrested most of the accused, except for two who are still being searched for.
