An Indian Air Force plane brought 246 Indians back to Mumbai from Sudan on Thursday. The citizens were evacuated from Sudan due to ongoing violence under ‘Operation Kaveri’. This operation involves transporting citizens in buses from conflict zones to Port Sudan, where they are then taken to Jeddah by Indian Air Force and Navy vehicles. The journey from Khartoum to Port Sudan takes between 12 to 18 hours by bus, depending on the situation and whether it is day or night. Union minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan tweeted his happiness about the successful evacuation.
