Cyberabad Traffic Police conducted an intensive weekend crackdown on drunk driving, apprehending 292 offenders across various parts of the city. The special enforcement drive targeted motorists driving under the influence of alcohol, with officers setting up multiple checkpoints throughout the jurisdiction.
The vehicle-wise breakdown revealed that two-wheelers accounted for the majority of violations with 240 cases, followed by 40 four-wheelers and 12 three-wheelers. No heavy vehicle drivers were found violating the drunk driving norms during this operation. Traffic officials used breathalyzers to measure Blood Alcohol Concentration levels of suspected drivers at various checkpoints.
Analysis of the BAC levels showed that 248 offenders recorded readings between 36 mg/100 ml to 200 mg/100 ml, while 30 offenders had significantly higher levels ranging from 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml. The most severe cases involved 14 offenders whose BAC levels ranged from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml. All apprehended individuals will be produced before the court for legal proceedings.
Cyberabad Police issued a stern warning that driving under the influence of alcohol constitutes a serious offence. Authorities emphasized that individuals found driving in an inebriated condition who cause fatal accidents will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which deals with Culpable Homicide Not Amounting to Murder. The maximum punishment under this section includes 10 years of imprisonment along with a fine.
In the previous week from 07.09.2026 to 12.09.2026, a total of 681 drunk driving cases were disposed of in courts. Of these, 18 persons received both fine and jail terms, 7 persons were sentenced to fine and social service, while 656 persons were penalized with fines only. The enforcement drive reflects the ongoing commitment of traffic authorities to ensure road safety and reduce alcohol-related accidents.
