Forty-five new electric buses are now operating in Suryapet district. The buses were officially launched by Deputy Chief Minister Batti Vikramarka and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar at the Suryapet RTC depot. Important figures like Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy, MLAs Padmavati and Samel, MLC Shankar Nayak, District Collector Tejas Nanda Lal Power, SP Narasimha, and Tourism Corporation Chairman Patel Ramesh Reddy attended the event. Once the launch concluded, the ministers and MLAs took a ride on the new buses.
The Telangana government is prioritizing electric vehicles to lower pollution and decrease diesel consumption. Revanth Reddy mentioned that diesel vehicles should eventually be replaced. Consequently, the government is investing in more electric buses.
Since the introduction of the Mahalaxmi Free Journey scheme, buses have been overcrowded due to insufficient numbers. Additionally, frequent breakdowns of RTC buses lead to high repair costs. To address these challenges, the government is acquiring new buses to enhance service for passengers.
