Hyderabad / Suryapet: On Monday, Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy announced a significant achievement in Telangana’s welfare initiatives. The state has distributed over 5.61 lakh new ration cards in one phase, a first in its history.

During a large public gathering in Tirumalagiri, Tungathurthi constituency, Minister Uttam praised this move, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, as a major step in improving public services. He assured that every eligible person would receive a ration card, with efforts continuing until everyone is covered.

“This is the new Telangana,” Uttam stated. “Eligible individuals will receive ration cards without any bribes or intermediaries. There are no waiting lists or questions. We are restoring dignity and ending ten years of unfairness.”

He criticized the former BRS government for denying many poor families their food rights by not issuing new ration cards or updating family details, which caused issues for larger families. Uttam promised that under the Congress government, this process would be transparent, fair, and ongoing.

This launch is the largest of its kind in over 11 years, increasing the number of ration cardholders to 95.56 lakh households, benefiting over 3.09 crore people. Minister Uttam highlighted that no other state has issued over 5.6 lakh ration cards at once, setting a national record.

The ration card initiative is part of a larger change that makes Telangana the first to offer 6 kg of fine rice per person to 80% of its people for free. “This isn’t just an election promise but a moral responsibility,” he said. “We provide quality rice to over three crore people, ensuring dignity and quality without conditions.”
