The Road Transport Authority (RTA) offices in Greater Hyderabad are facing a shortage of vehicle Registration Certificates (RC). This issue has been ongoing for over a month, causing delays for vehicle owners who have registered their vehicles. The smart cards, which contain important details, are not available, leaving applicants frustrated and waiting for longer periods.

The delay in issuing these documents is creating difficulties for motorists in the city. All RTA offices in Greater Hyderabad are affected, forcing people to visit the offices repeatedly. According to sources, over 500 transactions take place daily across 11 RTA offices. Some offices have stopped printing smart cards for more than a month due to a lack of supply. Since December, the printing and dispatch of RC cards via speed post have come to a halt.

The backlog of RC card issuance is affecting various RTA offices, including Khairatabad, Moosarambagh, Uppal, Ibrahimpatnam, Bandlaguda, Kondapur, and Attapur. Motorists are struggling as their smart cards remain pending.

M. Dayanand, General Secretary of the Telangana Auto and Motor Welfare Union, explained that the delay is due to ongoing disputes between transport officials and contractors. He mentioned that although the tender process has started, motorists are suffering despite paying their service charges. When applicants try to contact RTA officials, they receive no response.

Dayanand urged the RTA Department to ensure a steady supply of smart cards. He suggested that applicants should be informed in advance about possible delays through media announcements or SMS notifications. The absence of RC cards creates problems for vehicle owners when fixing number plates, crossing state borders, or during vehicle checks.
