In Hyderabad, on Vijay Kargil Diwas, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy honored Col Joy Dasgupta from the 18 Grenadiers, a hero of the Kargil War. Back then, Major Dasgupta took part in an operation to seize Tololing Hill, a strategic point used by Pakistani forces. This hill, overlooking National Highway 1A, was crucial as it affected military logistics from Batalik to Turtuk and Kargil. The task to capture this hill was given to the 18 Grenadiers.

The Grenadiers executed a series of attacks to secure Tololing. Col Dasgupta, originally from Hyderabad, studied at Wesley College, graduated from Osmania University, and trained at the Officers’ Training Academy in Chennai. He officially joined the military in May 1995.
