Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) carried out a drive on Monday to clear illegal structures between Khaja Mansion Hall and First Lancer in the Ahmed Nagar area of Nampally. These unauthorized constructions were causing heavy traffic jams and troubling local residents.
The operation removed illegal sheds, kiosks, and stalls blocking the sidewalks. JCB machines were used to demolish these structures, allowing pedestrians and vehicles to move freely again.
GHMC and traffic police worked together to clear the footpaths and main road of these obstructions. However, shopkeepers and vendors expressed their worries about the sudden demolitions that impact their businesses. They have asked authorities for alternative arrangements.
GHMC stated that this demolition is part of an ongoing effort to remove encroachments and ease traffic in crowded areas. The authority is focused on clearing unauthorized structures to improve road conditions and pedestrian safety, following legal guidelines under the GHMC Act.
In Ahmed Nagar, push carts and temporary sheds were removed for obstructing traffic. A GHMC official mentioned that they are removing all encroachments to ensure smooth movement on roads and footpaths. “We plan to conduct similar operations throughout the city to protect public spaces,” the official added.
GHMC officials have announced that anti-encroachment efforts will continue citywide. Zonal commissioners will oversee these operations in their areas. GHMC has issued a strong warning that anyone found occupying public land illegally will face strict action, regardless of their influence or status.
