Hyderabad faced severe flooding on Monday after intense rains turned roads into rivers. Traffic came to a halt for hours as vehicles struggled through the water. Low-lying areas were hit hardest, with overflowing storm drains and nearby water bodies worsening the situation.

Heavy rainfall swept away vehicles and made streets impassable. Motorists faced significant delays, particularly during the evening rush hour. Krishna Nagar B Block near Jubilee Hills saw several motorcycles swept away. In Tolichowki, Shaikpet, Vanashtalipuram, and LB Nagar, cars were submerged.

Severe flooding affected areas like L B Nagar, Yousufguda, Punjagutta, Ameerpet, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Malkajgiri, Madhapur, Miyapur, Serilingampally, Chandanagar, Gachibowli, Begumpet, Secunderabad, Parsigutta, Alwal, Qutubullapur, and parts of the Old City.

Traffic was worst in the Tolichowki circle. Roads such as the PVNR Expressway and Attapur were completely blocked by water. In Hayathnagar’s Banjara Colony, floodwaters entered homes, destroying belongings and keeping residents awake all night. A massive overflow from Jilan Khan lake near Turkayamjal added to the flooding, with water flowing towards Pedda Amberpet lake.

In Tolichowki, a school’s compound wall collapsed, damaging parked vehicles. By 9 pm, Banjara Hills recorded the highest rainfall of 103.8 mm, while Jubilee Hills saw 97.8 mm, and Khairtabad had 87.8 mm. Venkateshwara Colony in Banjara Hills received 79.8 mm.

Rains persisted through the night, worsening conditions in low-lying areas. The last two days of continuous rain caused significant waterlogging, disrupting daily life. Authorities are on high alert, monitoring the situation and advising caution.

Traffic jams were common at Lakdikapul, Ranigunj, Shadan College Khairtabad, KCP junction, Virinchi Hospital Junction, Punjagutta to Raj Bhavan road, and NFCL junction. The Masab Tank – Tolichowki – Shaikpet road towards Gachibowli and Madhapur was particularly affected, impacting the entire IT corridor.

After the rains eased, GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi visited impacted areas to assess the situation. The IMD-Hyderabad forecasts scattered rain throughout the week, with occasional heavy spells. Residents should expect intermittent showers and possible thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. With continued rain and a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, Hyderabad and central Telangana remain on high alert. Officials stress the importance of vigilance and following safety instructions. Citizens are urged to stay informed via weather updates and adhere to local guidelines to protect themselves and their property.
