A 16-day program to raise awareness for agricultural workers and rural multipurpose workers started today in Jogulamba Gadwal. The event is organized by the Telangana Agricultural Workers Union (TVVU) and the Telangana Gram Panchayat Multipurpose Workers Union (TGPMWU), with G. Narasimhulu supervising. From October 1 to October 16, the program will address the challenges faced by agricultural laborers and other workers, while promoting community activities statewide.

Key figures like Mattagala Venkataiah (State General Secretary of TVVU), D. Venkateswaramma (State Women’s Secretary), and district secretaries G. Narasimhulu and T. Padma attended. Other representatives, including Eshwaramma, Srinivasulu, Sanjeev Kumar, Ramulu, Vinod, and Kavita, were present. B. Naganna, State General Secretary of TGPMWU, also joined the event.

This effort is part of a broader national initiative by the National Alliance of Agriculture Allied Workers Union (NAAWU). From October 1 to October 16, similar activities will occur across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry. The focus is on engaging unorganized sector workers, identifying their issues, and spreading awareness of their rights.

The program will end on October 16 with World Food Day observances. NAAWU will organize protests to shed light on problems like inconsistent village work, unequal wages, lack of employment guarantees, insufficient social security, and exploitation of marginalized groups such as Dalits, women, and children. Climate change and severe weather are causing job losses, while local contractors often force workers into harsh conditions.

Through these awareness and protest activities, the unions aim to present demands to the state government via district collectors on World Food Day. Their goals include fair wages, social security, and better working conditions for workers in the unorganized sector.

The event in Jogulamba Gadwal saw participation from agricultural workers and unorganized workers from various district areas. The program lasted from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, marking the start of a state-level campaign that will continue for the next 16 days.
