Contract Teachers Speak Out After Being Ignored for 25 Years

Contract university teachers in Telangana are fighting for permanent jobs after working without security for decades. Around 1,200 lecturers have been teaching at state universities for over 25 years but still lack permanent employment status.

The Telangana State’s 12 Universities Contract Teachers Association organized a major meeting on Saturday. They joined forces with the Universities Contract Teachers Joint Action Committee to demand immediate action from the government.

Dr Parshuram led the conference as president of both organizations. The event brought together education leaders and government advisors who support the teachers’ cause.

Several prominent figures attended the meeting to show their backing. Prof Haragopal and Prof Kodandram, who serves as an MLC, were present. Prof PL Vishweshwar Rao from the State Education Commission also participated.

Other supporters included Dr Riyaz, who chairs the State Libraries Parishad, and Dr Bellaiah Naik from the State Tribal Finance Corporation. Even former Supreme Court judge Justice B Sudharshan Reddy sent a phone message expressing solidarity with the educators.

The speakers emphasized that these teachers deserve recognition for their long service. Prof Haragopal stressed that the state government must acknowledge their contributions and grant them job security immediately.

Prof Vishweshwar Rao revealed that officials had already received a detailed report about the problems these contract teachers face. The document outlines their struggles and recommends solutions.

The teachers have been serving Telangana’s universities faithfully for more than two decades. Despite their dedication and experience, they continue working without the stability that permanent positions would provide.

This ongoing situation affects educational quality across the state’s higher education system. The uncertainty makes it difficult for these experienced educators to plan their futures or fully commit to their institutions.
