The Central Government has placed the approval for the Regional Ring Road (RRR) Southern Alignment Project on hold as it has not been included under any specific central scheme. This development has raised concerns about whether the southern and northern sections of the ring road can proceed simultaneously as planned by the Telangana State Government.

The RRR project spans a total length of 362.51 kilometers, divided into two major segments. The northern alignment covers 161.51 kilometers, while the southern alignment extends for 201 kilometers. Work on the northern section is already underway, being executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the Bharatmala Pariyojana scheme. However, the southern portion requires inclusion under a similar central scheme to receive funding and approval.

According to recent correspondence from Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) officials to RDO authorities, no final decision has been made regarding the southern segment’s alignment. The state government has submitted the alignment details and requested that work on both sections proceed in parallel. However, uncertainty remains about whether simultaneous execution of both the northern and southern portions will be possible given the current approval status.

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) submitted by the state government for the southern alignment proposes a greenfield express road with six lanes. The route is planned from Tangadepalli junction in Choutuppal, Yadadri district to Sangareddy, covering 201 kilometers. The proposed road will connect National Highways 65, 44, 163, 19, and 76, passing through seven districts including Yadadri, Nalgonda, Rangareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Vikarabad, and Sangareddy.

The project alignment passes through 55 residential areas across these districts and requires land acquisition of approximately 2,010 hectares. The state government has completed the alignment design and submitted it to the central authorities, but the proposal currently remains pending with the Central Government for final approval and scheme allocation.
