The Cantonment Vikas Manch organised a postcard movement to demand the merger of Secunderabad Cantonment with GHMC. The campaign aims to collect 50,000 postcards and a written petition to be sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Around 600 postcards were collected on the first day of the campaign. The merger process has been slow even though the eight-committee team formed by the Ministry of Defence completed the final proceeding more than four months ago.

The Cantonment Vikas Manch is demanding the merger for the development of Secunderabad and the self-respect of its people. The postcard movement is meant to show the government how keen the people of the Cantonment are for the merger. The aim is to force the Central government to act fast and merge with GHMC. “Only a single step we are ahead of the merger with GHMC, once the Ministry of Defence (MoD) passes the order, the merger will take place then why the process is not happening? All our hopes are crushed, for several years civilians of Cantonment are residing in fear and government schemes are been availed to us. With this movement we are hoping that our pleas reach Prime Minister,” said another member of Vikas Manch.
