ADILABAD: North Telangana’s Adilabad is set for a major infrastructure push, with the State government moving ahead with plans for a 10,000-acre mega industrial park, a ₹2,278-crore joint-user airport and expanded technology infrastructure.
The proposed industrial park, planned across parts of Bhoraj and Bheempur mandals, is expected to become one of Telangana’s largest industrial zones outside Hyderabad. The Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) has been working on a detailed project report, while land parcels have been identified for the development. The site’s proximity to the Hyderabad-Nagpur highway and the proposed airport is expected to strengthen its logistics potential.
₹2,278-Crore Airport to Add Cargo and MRO Facilities
Adilabad’s aviation plans have also moved forward. The Telangana government has approved ₹2,278.14 crore for land acquisition for the proposed joint-user airport, which will serve both civilian and Indian Air Force operations.
The project covers approximately 2,009 acres, with 1,609 acres earmarked for the IAF and around 400 acres planned for a civil aviation enclave, including cargo operations, MRO facilities and aircraft hangars. The airport is expected to be developed jointly by the Airports Authority of India and the Indian Air Force.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has also sought the development of passenger, cargo, MRO and hangar facilities at the airport, with the aim of creating a larger aviation ecosystem around Adilabad.
IT Infrastructure Adds a Technology Layer
Alongside industrial and aviation infrastructure, Adilabad is also gaining an IT ecosystem. The district already has an IT Tower, and its planned inauguration is being positioned as a step towards taking technology-sector growth beyond Hyderabad.
The facility is expected to provide infrastructure for technology companies and create opportunities for local youth and businesses. The broader Telangana strategy has previously included IT towers and incubation centres in Tier-2 cities to decentralise the State’s technology sector.
Industrial Park Could Transform North Telangana
The proposed 10,000-acre industrial park is being planned as a major catalyst for industrialisation in a region that has traditionally had less industrial infrastructure than Hyderabad and southern Telangana.
Its location near major road connectivity and the proposed airport could allow the region to develop a combination of manufacturing, logistics, warehousing and other industrial activities. However, the project remains under development, with land acquisition and detailed planning still progressing.
Recent developments also show that the land acquisition process is attracting political scrutiny, with opposition leaders raising concerns over ownership and legal issues involving some identified parcels.
With the industrial park, airport and IT infrastructure moving forward, Adilabad could gradually develop into a new industrial, logistics and technology centre for North Telangana.
For now, the projects remain at different stages of planning and implementation, but together they represent one of the most significant infrastructure-led development pushes for Adilabad in recent years.
