Akbaruddin Owaisi, an MLA from Chandrayanagutta and the floor leader of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in the State Assembly, filed his nomination for the Hyderabad Parliamentary constituency on Monday. This move comes after his brother, Asaduddin Owaisi, who is the president of AIMIM, filed his nomination for the same seat on April 19. Asaduddin Owaisi currently represents the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency.

Party sources revealed that Akbaruddin filed his nomination as a backup in case his brother’s nomination is rejected on technical grounds. He plans to withdraw his papers on the last day if needed, clearing the way for his elder brother. This strategy is not new, as Akbaruddin has done the same in previous elections.

In his affidavit, Akbaruddin declared moveable assets worth Rs 5.45 crore, while his spouse, Sabina Farzana, has assets worth Rs 6.06 crore. He also listed immovable assets worth Rs 3.85 crore, with liabilities of Rs 30.89 lakh. Akbaruddin owns a residential house and flats in Banjara Hills and Bangalore. He also declared ownership of weapons including a pistol, a rifle, and a gun.

The election campaign of the Owaisi brothers for the parliamentary elections has been in full swing since last week. They have been actively campaigning in their respective constituencies along with their party’s MLAs. As of Monday, a total of six candidates, including Akbaruddin Owaisi, have filed nomination papers for the Hyderabad parliamentary seat.

Overall, Akbaruddin’s nomination as a backup candidate for his brother Asaduddin Owaisi demonstrates the party’s strategic approach to ensure representation in the upcoming elections.
