Karimnagar: The electricity department in Karimnagar is introducing a new system for clearer billing. This change comes from orders by NTDCL CMD Varun Reddy. Karimnagar Circle Superintending Engineer Meka Ramesh Babu shared that the ‘Automatic Meter Reading (AMR)’ system is designed to make bill delivery faster and more transparent for consumers.

The AMR system is currently being tested for industries using high-capacity electricity. Ramesh Babu stated that this system will help avoid issues related to manual billing. For electricity consumption in the high voltage (HT) category, an ADE level officer handles readings if the capacity is over 55 HP, while an AE level officer manages it if the capacity is under 55 HP. Line inspectors collect non-slab readings, and private or junior linemen gather slab readings.

The new meter reading system aims to eliminate errors and quickly detect fluctuations in electricity supply, saving staff time. Ramesh Babu explained that AMR refers to a smart meter system that measures electricity use. A 4G SIM card is inserted into the meter, allowing data to reach the central server in Hanumakonda without human help. This ensures accurate billing is completed within 30 days, reducing staff costs.
