Ayyappa Society residents angry about government land survey
Text Size: 100%

Tension arose in Ayyappa Society, Madhapur, on Monday as people living near Sunnam Cheruvu protested against the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Authority (HYDRAA) and the government. They claimed an illegal survey was being done to demolish their homes, despite a court order stopping such actions.

Residents stated that HYDRAA continued with surveys even though there was a court stay order. This made them fear their homes might be torn down. The protest near Sunnam Cheruvu highlighted concerns that the actual 15-acre lake area is being incorrectly marked as 32 acres. Protesters argued this survey was not legal because of the court’s existing injunction.

Frustrated by the unauthorized survey, locals blocked the main road, causing major traffic issues. The situation worsened when protesters used petrol bottles and threatened to set themselves on fire if their pleas for justice were ignored. Police stepped in to manage the situation, dispersing the crowd and keeping a watchful eye to prevent more trouble.
