The Telangana government has transferred road expansion responsibilities from the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited (HRDCL) to the Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HACL) in a move expected to accelerate long-delayed infrastructure projects. The decision comes after years of stagnation in road development work across major areas in the Greater Hyderabad region, particularly in Rajendranagar circle, where roads have remained undeveloped despite rapid urbanization and availability of funds.

Roads in Bandlaguda Jagir, Hydershakot, and Kismatpur divisions were planned for expansion six years ago, but work never commenced despite sanctioned budgets. The government has now issued orders placing all urban and main radial road development, infrastructure projects, and road repairs within the Greater Hyderabad area under the single authority of HACL. This consolidation aims to eliminate confusion between the overlapping powers of HRDCL and HACL, which previously led to coordination issues and work delays.

The expansion of the Hyderabad-Bijapur National Highway from Bandlaguda Jagir intersection through Bandlaguda Jagir to Kismatpur is expected to begin soon under the new arrangement. The government has allocated Rs. 161 crore for this project, which will widen main roads in the area to 100 feet. The project had been assigned to HRDCL earlier, with multiple surveys conducted, but no actual construction work was initiated despite the funding being in place.

The region has witnessed massive development with numerous gated community apartments and villa projects coming up in recent years. However, the area continues to rely on narrow 30-foot roads that were built years ago. The surge in vehicle numbers has created frequent traffic congestion problems for residents and commuters. The situation has worsened as suburban expansion continued without corresponding infrastructure development, leaving major roads in a dilapidated condition.

Preliminary work for the expansion had begun approximately six months ago when trees on both sides of the road were removed. However, actual construction work remained on hold. The project was initially scheduled to be completed before the 2023 Assembly elections but was postponed indefinitely. The lack of clarity in work distribution between HRDCL and HACL contributed significantly to these delays, according to government assessments.

Local residents have expressed optimism following the recent government orders transferring responsibilities to HACL. The government believes that bringing road development under a single department rather than splitting it between two agencies will improve coordination and increase the pace of work. All pending projects previously assigned to HRDCL in the Rajendranagar circle will now be executed by HACL, with authorities expecting faster implementation and completion of the long-awaited road expansion work.
