Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has stated that her government is cautious about development partnerships with China and that Dhaka is not reliant on any one country for foreign assistance. Her comments come amid global concerns over mounting debt to Beijing by smaller countries. Hasina described China as one of Bangladesh’s major development partners, as they are investing and engaged in major construction works in the South Asian country. The prime minister added that her government only takes loans from institutions like the World Bank and Asian Development Bank, and that her administration does not take unnecessary loans from anyone.
