In Hyderabad, the BJP Mahila Morcha protested for Asha workers’ rights outside the Directorate of Medical and Health. They want the promises made by the Congress party during elections to be fulfilled.

Asha workers in Telangana have been serving for over 30 years. They have received government training and provide various health services, including during the pandemic. The World Health Organisation recognized them as Global Leaders in Health.

The Mahila Morcha opposes making Asha workers take exams, as they have extensive experience. The government previously tried to implement this, but faced backlash from Asha workers. Former Health Minister T Harish Rao cancelled Asha Examinations in a teleconference meeting in June 2023.

The Mahila Morcha demands immediate implementation of the promised Rs 18,000 remuneration for Ashas. They also want specific guidelines against assigning tasks like carrying sputum bins and setting up restrooms in government hospitals for female Ashas.

Furthermore, they seek maternity leave, casual leave with pay, reduced workload, and clear job descriptions for Asha workers.
