Hyderabad: On Tuesday, BJP MLA and BJPLP Whip Dhanpal Suryanarayana Gupta criticized the Congress government, saying their current padayatra lacks real public support. Speaking at the BJP state office, Gupta argued that the padayatra is more about political show than addressing people’s issues.
Gupta accused Congress of trying to cover up its poor performance by emphasizing its achievements over the last 20 months, which he claimed were minimal. “People are questioning what Congress has actually done in this time. Their padayatra doesn’t meet public expectations,” he said.
He claimed Congress failed to fulfill promises made during the 2023 elections. These promises included monthly financial aid of Rs 2,500 for women over 18, providing electric scooters to students, and pensions for the elderly and widows. Gupta said these broken promises have caused widespread disappointment.
On the topic of backward class (BC) representation, Gupta criticized Congress for not implementing a 42% reservation in the cabinet and questioned the inclusion of Muslims in the BC quota. He pointed out that none of the five newly announced RTI commissioners were from BC communities.
Gupta also expressed concern over the state’s handling of welfare programs, citing problems with Kalyana Lakshmi payments and inadequate budget allocations for BCs under the Kamareddy Declaration.
He alleged that Congress created health and nutrition issues in government schools and failed to repay Rs 6,000 crore in educational fees for BC students.
Regarding the alleged Kaleshwaram scam, he called for a CBI investigation. He criticized the report by the Justice PC Ghosh Commission for being unclear and claimed that the inflated motor costs showed collusion between Congress and BRS.
Gupta predicted that Congress would face backlash in the upcoming local elections, stating that the BC community would unite to defeat them. “Governance should build trust, not rely on events like padayatras,” he concluded.
