Hyderabad: Mallikarjun Kharge, the AICC leader, is set to lead a protest at Jantar Mantar. The demonstration aims to urge the President to approve bills for BC reservations. Rahul Gandhi, along with MPs from the INDIA bloc, will join the protest on Wednesday.
Mallu Ravi, the Telangana Congress MPs Convener, shared in Delhi that Congress MPs from across the nation and the INDIA bloc have been invited to the protest on August 6. “We expect full participation from the alliance MPs. Rahul Gandhi will attend the conclusion of the protest,” stated Mallu Ravi.
The Nagarkurnool MP emphasized that this protest is part of a larger national effort by the Congress to advocate for a 42% reservation. Cabinet ministers, MPs, MLAs, and MLCs will support AICC leaders to pressure the central government for these reservations.
He also mentioned efforts to secure a meeting with the President concerning the issue. “Two bills and an ordinance await the President’s approval. We have requested a meeting to discuss their significance. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has written a letter regarding this matter. We are seeking an appointment but have not received any response yet.
We hope to meet the President tomorrow. A delegation will represent the Telangana government,” explained MP Mallu Ravi.
“The President herself is from a weaker section. We trust she will understand the importance of the BC reservation bills,” added the Nagarkurnool MP.
Earlier, Congress MPs from the state submitted an adjournment motion in Parliament to demand a debate on the BC quota bills. Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, the Bhongir MP, said, “We are advocating for the implementation of 42% OBC reservation. We will continue to file adjournment motions in Parliament. All 200 INDIA bloc MPs are invited to join our protest at Jantar Mantar.”
