Hyderabad: The BJP has criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for reportedly flying to Vietnam to celebrate the New Year, despite the Congress party declaring a week-long mourning period in honor of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

During a specially-convened Assembly session, BJP floor leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy questioned what he called the “hypocrisy” of the Congress party. He ridiculed the seriousness of the mourning announcement, accusing Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, of being disrespectful to Manmohan Singh both during his lifetime and after his passing.

Reddy referred to past instances to support his claim. He highlighted how Rahul Gandhi, during the UPA’s rule in 2013, tore up a copy of an ordinance brought by Manmohan Singh’s government. The ordinance was intended to protect convicted lawmakers from immediate disqualification from Parliament, but Rahul’s public rejection of it undermined the former Prime Minister’s leadership.
