AMARAVATI: Botsa Satyanarayana, a senior leader of the YSR Congress Party and former minister, was sworn in as a member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council on Wednesday. He was elected unopposed from the United Visakhapatnam local authority constituency for a term of three years.

The ruling National Democratic Alliance did not put forward a candidate for this seat, which led to Satyanarayana being elected without any opposition. Although Sheikh Shafiullah had submitted his nomination as an independent candidate, he later withdrew, ensuring Satyanarayana’s easy victory.

The council seat became vacant after C Srinivas Rao was disqualified under the anti-defection law. Rao had resigned from the YSR Congress Party to join the Jana Sena Party. A by-election was initially scheduled for August 30, but it was no longer necessary after the uncontested win.
