Hyderabad: The BRS urged the central government to quickly set a date for the long-overdue Census. They stressed the need for both a general Census and a caste-based count to support democracy, equality, and social justice, as outlined in the constitution.
BRS leader B Vinod Kumar highlighted that Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini introduced a resolution backing the caste Census at an NDA meeting, seconded by AP Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan. Though the BRS appreciates this move, Kumar insisted that passing resolutions without a clear plan or announcement for the ten-year Census is ineffective. He emphasized that a caste Census is essential for social justice, fair policy-making, and proper representation.
Kumar expressed disappointment over the lack of official updates or clarity shared with the public and political figures regarding the Census schedule, methods, or scope.
The 2021 Census was postponed due to COVID. Without updated Census information, important processes like delimitation, which ensures fair representation, cannot proceed properly.
