BRS Criticizes Congress Over Sudden Assembly Adjournment in Telangana
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has slammed the Congress-led Telangana government for abruptly adjourning the Assembly and Council within two minutes of their start. The BRS accused the government of deliberately avoiding discussions on important public issues.
The special session was meant to address critical topics like the Caste Survey data, the Dedication Commission report, and the Judicial Commission report on Scheduled Castes categorization. However, Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu claimed the Cabinet meeting was still ongoing and more time was needed to finalize the minutes, which led to the adjournment.
Senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao criticized the government for its lack of preparation. He questioned why the Cabinet meeting was scheduled on the same day as the Assembly session, calling it poor planning and evidence of the Congress’s unserious approach to legislative matters.
Former ministers V. Prashanth Reddy, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, and G. Kamalakar also expressed their disapproval. They argued that such an incident hadn’t occurred before, even during the era of the combined Andhra Pradesh government. The leaders accused the Congress of avoiding debates on issues affecting Backward Classes (BC), Scheduled Castes (SC), and other marginalized groups.
The BRS raised concerns about the credibility of the caste census, claiming it was conducted hastily and excluded many households. Talasani Srinivas Yadav questioned the data, pointing out how the population of BCs, SCs, and Minorities seemed to decline while Other Castes (OCs) reportedly grew. He alleged that the flawed data could be used to manipulate policies and resources meant for disadvantaged communities.
Additionally, the opposition criticized the government for failing to outline an agenda for the session. “If the government wasn’t ready with the reports, why call for a special session at all?” asked V. Prashanth Reddy. He argued that the adjournment blocked important discussions on employment, education, and social justice.
The BRS leaders demanded that the Assembly reconvene immediately with all necessary reports in place. They warned that failing to do so would expose the Congress government’s inefficiency and lack of commitment to governance. They also called for a thorough review of the caste survey to ensure fairness and accuracy in policymaking for Telangana’s diverse communities.
