“Build Future City Later, Fix Current City Now”, Chandanagar Residents Protest Over Poor Road Conditions

Residents from multiple colonies in Chandanagar took to the streets in a protest rally demanding immediate action on deteriorating road conditions. The demonstration saw participation from locals of PJR Colony, Aparna Hill Park, Gardenia, and Silicon colonies, who voiced their frustration over the prolonged neglect of basic infrastructure in their area. The protesters marched through the locality, raising slogans and highlighting the urgent need for road repairs that have been pending for years.

The primary grievance of the residents centers around the road stretch from Gangaram Hanuman Temple to Aparna, which was sanctioned for construction in 2023 by the previous government. Despite two years passing since the approval, the current administration has not initiated any work on the project. This delay has sparked strong resentment among the local population, who depend on this road for their daily commute and essential activities.

During the rally, protesters raised powerful slogans that captured their frustration with the government’s priorities. “After dreaming about a Future City, first fix the city we live in. Laying proper roads saves our lives,” the residents chanted as they marched through the streets. The demonstrators emphasized that while authorities focus on ambitious development projects, the basic infrastructure needs of existing neighborhoods remain unaddressed.

The poor condition of roads in the area has become a major safety concern for residents. Potholes and damaged road surfaces pose risks to commuters, particularly two-wheeler riders, and have led to numerous accidents and vehicle damage. The situation worsens during the monsoon season when waterlogging makes the roads nearly impassable.
