The Tamil Nadu Farmers Association has planned a protest called ‘Rail Roko’ for September 19 to address the Cauvery water issue. The association’s office bearers met on Wednesday and decided to hold this demonstration. The protest will cover all the Delta districts of Tamil Nadu and aims to pressure the Central government to engage with Karnataka and ensure the release of Cauvery water for Tamil Nadu.

The organization has accused the Central government of favoring Karnataka in the Cauvery water dispute, which goes against the interests of Tamil Nadu’s farming community. P. R. Pandian, the General Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Farmers Association, has criticized the Union Government for consistently supporting Karnataka and working against Tamil Nadu’s interests in the Cauvery water issue.

Pandian also mentioned the efforts of former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai in intensifying protests in Karnataka against releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. He stated that Union government representatives had made allegations against Tamil Nadu regarding Kuruvai paddy cultivation during a meeting of the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA).

Pandian emphasized that there seemed to be a “larger political conspiracy” targeting Tamil Nadu in this matter and stressed that it was the responsibility of the Union Government to implement the directives issued by the Cauvery Water Management Authority.
