The Union Cabinet has approved the development of 12 industrial smart cities across 10 states, including Telangana. One of these cities will be Zaheerabad, which is already recognized as an industrially growing area. The total estimated cost for developing these 12 industrial smart cities is Rs 28,602 crore. This initiative is expected to generate 9.39 lakh direct jobs and 30 lakh indirect jobs.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that this project aims to turn India into a global manufacturing powerhouse. The plan includes setting up industrial nodes along the golden quadrilateral highway, giving the appearance of a ‘grand necklace of Industrial Smart Cities.’
The focus of these projects will be on integrated development, sustainable infrastructure, and seamless connectivity. The National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) will provide developed land parcels that are ready for immediate allotment. This will make it easier for both domestic and international investors to set up manufacturing units in India.
For Zaheerabad, this decision is expected to attract large-scale investments in the manufacturing sector. The Zaheerabad Node is a 12,635.14-acre industrial project located in Sangareddy district. It is already part of the Hyderabad Nagpur Industrial Corridor (HNIC).
The project will span 17 villages in the Nyalkal and Jharasangam Mandals and is situated 19 kilometers from the Zaheerabad railway station. The first phase of the Zaheerabad Node will be developed over 3,909 acres. The Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) of the Government of India has already approved this project.
These new industrial cities will be developed as Greenfield smart cities, adhering to global standards. The cities will be built based on the ‘plug-n-play’ and ‘walk-to-work’ concepts, ensuring they are equipped with advanced infrastructure that supports sustainable and efficient industrial operations.
Officials mentioned that the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (TGSIIDC) will hold discussions with central authorities to plan the promotion of Zaheerabad as a future industrial development destination.
