Chandigarh to host celebration of IAF's 44 Squadron's diamond jubilee

The 44 Squadron of the Indian Air Force (IAF) is celebrating its diamond jubilee in Chandigarh this year. The squadron was founded on April 6, 1961, and used the AN-12 aircraft until 1985 when it introduced the IL-76 aircraft, which is still in use today. The squadron has been involved in all major military and HADR initiatives in recent national history, helping to evolve the IAF and the nation into a strategic force. The squadron’s motto is “Ishtam Yatnen Sadhyet” which means achieve goals through perseverance.

The diamond jubilee celebrations were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the squadron has remained true to its motto and continues to be at the forefront of the airlift activities undertaken by the IAF. They are always ready to undertake any task that is entrusted to them. The squadron’s history is filled with tales of fortitude, courage, daring, devotion and professionalism which encapsulates all that IAF stands for.

The squadron has provided assistance in times of need to citizens of India and people all around the world, reflecting the nation’s belief of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”. The squadron has been renamed as the ‘Mighty Jets’ since 1985.
