Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has accused the Punjab government of failing on the law and order front. Shekhawat claimed that the drug and gun mafia dominate in Punjab, while artists, traders, builders, and prominent citizens are receiving extortion calls and threats. He also alleged that the AAP is unable to handle a border state, and the BJP had warned that if the AAP comes to power in Punjab, the situation in the state could get out of control. Shekhawat made these remarks while addressing a press conference in Chandigarh where former deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Jalandhar, Rajinder Singh joined the BJP ahead of the May 10 Jalandhar Lok Sabha bypoll. The seat fell vacant after the death of Congress leader Santokh Singh Chaudhary in January. Shekhawat also criticized the state government for alleged non-fulfillment of its promises, including giving a stipend to women and employment to the youth. He further added that the BJP has a zero-tolerance policy towards matters pertaining to the country’s unity and integrity, and no laxity will be tolerated on this front.
