The Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has completed a techno-economic feasibility study for a proposed Personal Rapid Transit System (PRTS) in Hyderabad. The system aims to strengthen last-mile connectivity and ease traffic congestion in the city.

The study looks at two key areas. The first is the Raidurg–Kukatpally corridor, which covers Raidurg, HITEC City, Knowledge City and the Financial District.

The second is the Secretariat–Secunderabad corridor. It covers Hussainsagar, Begumpet, Assembly and Secunderabad West.

The proposed system will use automated, driverless pods. These pods will connect Metro stations with nearby business districts and activity centres. The project is being explored under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

HMRL and LEA Associates held a stakeholder workshop on October 27. The meeting discussed the study, proposed routes, ridership and implementation challenges. The stated objective is to improve Metro access, reduce dependence on private vehicles and make daily commuting more convenient.

The proposal is still under consideration. The final routes, project cost, fares and implementation timelines are yet to be announced.
