Gadwal: Workers Demand Justice and Wage Revisions
CITU District Vice President Uppair Narasimha has called for the immediate release of a government order (GO) to implement revised wage rates and provide relief to workers facing financial hardships. On Thursday, he visited the strike camp of Civil Supply Hamali workers, who have been protesting indefinitely at the Gadwal stock point.
During his visit, Narasimha highlighted the struggles of the Civil Supply Hamali workers, who play a key role in the Telangana Civil Supplies Corporation. He reminded everyone that the government had previously promised to increase the workers’ bonus from ₹6,500 to ₹7,500 and implement revised wage rates. However, even after three months, no action has been taken to fulfill these promises.
Narasimha criticized the government for the delay, emphasizing that these workers are the backbone of the public distribution system in the state. Despite their hard work, he said, they are being exploited and pushed into financial difficulties. He expressed his frustration over the unfulfilled assurances, which he believes have left many workers and their families struggling to make ends meet.
The Vice President also accused the government of wasting public grain worth crores while ignoring the needs of the laborers responsible for its production and distribution. He vowed that the strike would continue until the government delivers on its promises. Narasimha urged the authorities to initiate discussions with workers’ unions to resolve their issues without further delay.
Leaders Join the Protest
Several union leaders joined the protest to support the striking workers. Among them were Civil Supply Hamali Workers’ Union District Assistant Secretary Shiva Krishna, along with leaders Naresh, Govindu, Anjaneyulu, Nandakishore, Sahadevudu, Mallanna, Chinna Hanuman, Saiyamma, and Naveen.
The strike has drawn attention to the plight of workers who play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the public distribution system. The protesters remain firm in their demand for fair wages and better working conditions.
