Hyderabad: On Friday, Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi praised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for his role in making Greater Hyderabad a top-notch city. She spoke while raising the national flag at the GHMC Head Office during the 79th Independence Day event.
During the celebration, loans totaling Rs 288.85 crore were given to 2,597 Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Additionally, under the Self Employment Programme (SEP), Rs 1.15 crore was provided to 155 individuals to start small businesses.
The Mayor emphasized GHMC’s inclusive growth initiatives, mentioning that transgenders trained in graphic design at the Light House Communities Skilling Centre received job offers from Red TV. Four individuals—Madhuraj, Emran Khan, Naveena, and Varun Tej—were acknowledged at the event.
Driving licenses for two- and three-wheelers were granted to five women to aid their income. This year, 3,460 new SHGs were established through GHMC’s efforts.
The Mayor announced new welfare programs, including the launch of Indiramma Canteens across GHMC areas. She also mentioned that a Civil Registration System Portal for birth and death certificates would be available soon for public convenience.
To tackle urban flooding and enhance stormwater systems, GHMC plans to start a GIS-based survey of stormwater drains soon.
Commissioner R.V. Karnan, along with senior officials like Additional Commissioners Raghu Prasad, Venugopal, Subhadra Devi, and others, participated in the celebrations.
