Nalgonda: District Collector Ila Tripathi has given clear instructions that paddy with a moisture content of 17% or less should be purchased on the same day it arrives at the procurement centres and sent to the mills immediately.
On Sunday, the Collector made a surprise visit to the Ponugodu paddy procurement centre in Kanagal Mandal, Nalgonda District. This visit followed reports that paddy had gotten wet due to rainfall on Saturday night.
She emphasized that strict action would be taken if there are any delays in purchasing paddy that meets the correct moisture levels. Additionally, she suggested that procurement centres should be located in elevated areas to avoid waterlogging during rain. She also directed staff at the centres to record moisture levels every day and maintain proper registers.
The District Civil Supplies Manager, Harish, was asked to ensure that contractors provide lorries on time at the procurement centres. If lorries are not arranged correctly, action will be taken against the contractors.
During her inspection, the Collector also interacted with the farmers. Other officials present included DRDO Shekhar Reddy, RDO Ashok Reddy, revenue officers, and other administrators from the centre.
