The Nagole Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) in Hyderabad is almost finished and expected to be operational by the end of July. The plant is part of a larger project to improve sewage treatment in the city. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board is overseeing the construction of 31 new STPs in three different packages.
In Package I, eight STPs will be set up in Alwal, Malkajgiri, Kapra, and Uppal circle areas, treating 402.50 MLDs of sewage at a cost of Rs 1230.21 crore. In Package II, six STPs in Rajendranagar and LB Nagar areas will treat 480.50 MLDs of sewage at a cost of Rs 1355.13 crore. Package III includes 17 STPs in Kukatpally, Quthbullapur, and Serilingampally areas, treating 376.50 MLDs of sewage at a cost of Rs 1280.87 crore.
During a recent visit to the Nagole STP, officials inspected the progress and ordered the completion of final stage works. Landscaping and beautification suggestions were made for the premises. The goal of these STP projects is to ensure 100% treatment of the daily sewage generated in Hyderabad.
The total daily sewage generated in the Hyderabad urban area is 1950 MLDs, with 1650 MLDs in the GHMC area alone. Currently, 772 MLDs (46%) of sewage are being treated through 25 existing STPs. Once the new STPs are completed, Hyderabad aims to become the first city in South Asia to treat all its daily sewage.
