The Election Commission asked Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge to explain a tweet about Sonia Gandhi’s comment on Karnataka’s sovereignty. The BJP complained that the tweet suggested secession. The tweet said that the Congress wouldn’t let anyone threaten Karnataka’s reputation, sovereignty, or integrity and was posted on May 6. The BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked the Congress, accusing them of wanting to separate Karnataka from India. Modi claimed that the “tukde-tukde gang” had infiltrated the Congress, and the Gandhis were working against India’s interests. The BJP filed a complaint with the Election Commission, demanding action against Congress and Sonia Gandhi. They also sought her party’s derecognition.
