Congress and BRS Intensify Campaigns Ahead of Local Elections

With local body elections approaching, the Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) parties are stepping up their campaigns to secure key victories. The ruling Congress is focused on gaining dominance by encouraging leaders from BRS to join them and aiming for unopposed victories in several villages.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud have instructed party leaders to weaken BRS’s influence at the grassroots level. Their strategy includes welcoming defectors from BRS and mobilizing resources for a strong electoral performance. To boost their campaign, Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge is set to address a rally in Medak, while Rahul Gandhi will hold a public meeting in Suryapet, further heating up the political scene.

In a significant development, senior BRS leader and former Jangaon Zilla Parishad Co-option Member Md Madar joined Congress. He was welcomed into the party by Palakurthi constituency in-charge Jhansi Hanumandla on Saturday in Hyderabad. This marks a crucial defection from BRS, strengthening Congress’s position.

Madar was accompanied by local Congress leaders, including Block President Rapaka Satyanarayana and Mandal Presidents Giragani Kumaraswamy, Dharavath Suresh Naik, and Srinivas. His induction took place at Jhansi Rajender Reddy’s residence in Banjara Hills.

Following this, Jhansi Reddy held discussions with party members on securing unopposed victories in as many villages as possible. She also emphasized the need to field strong candidates in contested areas and encourage more BRS leaders to switch sides. A key focus for Congress is defeating former minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao, who has long dominated the region’s politics.

Madar’s move to Congress has stirred political tensions in the district, leading to speculation about more defections. While Jhansi Rajender Reddy is reportedly planning further inductions, BRS leaders are working hard to prevent more high-profile exits from their party.
